Special Projects

Artists Walk

Alongside the residency programme VARC initiates special projects. With these VARC hopes to achieve its aims and extend these in particular ways.

It hopes its special projects will continue to:

- Promote the understanding and enjoyment of visual arts in rural communities through contact with an artist, through creative workshops and through mounting exhibitions in the area.

- Provide an artist a unique opportunity to develop his or her practice in an isolated rural community.

- Bring artists and local people together to make new artwork (as individuals and as a whole) in a way that explores, expresses and celebrates the special qualities of the Tarset landscape and community.

VARC is planning a special celebratory creative and participatory event for its tenth birthday year 2010. This will include the commissioning of new temporary pieces by past artists working collaboratively with an artist of their choice; creative participatory workshops led by past artists with local residents to highlight special qualities of Tarset that have inspired past artists and new artwork being made on the day by artists with contributions and help from visitors. Keep an eye on our News page for more details as the planning of the event develops.
